Howard Dean gave Chris Matthews a good chuckle Monday evening when he said that “if Donald Trump can be president…anybody can be president.”

Matthews, host of MSNBC’s “Hardball,” asked the former governor of Vermont who the Democrats were floating for a 2020 presidential nomination.

Dean brought up Eric Garcetti, the mayor of Los Angeles, but Matthews seemed unconvinced, asking, “for President of the United States?”

“He’s gonna go from Mayor of LA to president?” the MSNBC host questioned.

“If Donald Trump can be president, now we know anybody can be president, right?” Dean said with a chuckle.

“We can put a man on the moon!” Matthews responded with glee.

Matthews spent the next few seconds trying to recover from the apparently hilarious anti-Trump joke, stumbling on his words until Dean took over speaking again.
