David Axelrod wasn’t thrilled with Hillary Clinton’s reasoning as to why she lost the election, telling CNN that “it takes a lot of work to lose to Donald Trump.”

While Clinton placed some of the blame for her defeat on Comey’s notice of an investigation into her emails shortly before the election, Axelrod pushed back on that excuse.

“Jim Comey didn’t tell her not to campaign in Wisconsin after the convention, Jim Comey didn’t say, ‘don’t put any resources into Michigan until the final week,” the former advisor to Barack Obama said Wednesday morning. “One of the things that hindered her in the campaign was a sense that she never fully was willing to take responsibility for her mistakes.”

“If I were her, I would move on,” he asserted.

CNN anchor Alisyn Camerota disagreed with this assessment, playing a clip of Clinton saying she took “personal responsibility” for her loss but the ultimate reason she lost was the Comey letter.

“I think she would have been well served to just stop before she got to ‘but the reason I lost…'” Axelrod responded. “It takes a lot of work to lose to Donald Trump.”
