Democratic West Virginia Sen. Joe Manchin said shortly after the firing of FBI Director James Comey that his removal would not impede the investigation into alleged US-Russia collusion.

Manchin had just heard the news on his way to interview with CNN’s Wolf Blitzer Tuesday afternoon, but had a very clear message regarding the Russia investigation.

“At first wash, I’ll just tell ya it’s not going to impede our investigation and finding out where the intel committee basically is gonna get it’s information,” the senator from West Virginia said. “We still look forward to Mr. Comey coming before us as we do Sally Yates coming before us so that will not change our investigation.”

“The intel will take us…and will lead us to the truth,” Manchin concluded.

Manchin did not speculate on the reason for Comey’s firing outside of the recommendation letter from the attorney general, but said he would appreciate more information so there could be “transparency.”
