Police in Orange County, Tex. have arrested three illegal immigrants connected to the abduction and robbery of a local attorney.
Detectives with the Orange County Sheriff’s Office tracked down German Adalid Borjas-Benitez, 19, Henrry Eduar Rivera-Antunez, 17, and Erik Pagoada-Bustillo, 17, in Port Arthur, Tex. on Friday, 12NEWS reported. Two of the men allegedly broke into the home of attorney Jim Sharon Bearden Jr. on May 8 and tied him up as they stole expensive items, including guns and jewelry. The third suspect, who was the crew’s driver, stayed outside as a lookout, police said.
After they finished ransacking the house, the men allegedly shoved Bearden into his own car, drove him to Port Arthur, and forced him to withdraw cash from a bank. They released Bearden unharmed with his vehicle after the robbery, according to police.
Orange County Sheriff Captain Cliff Hargrave said all three subjects confessed to charges of burglary of a habitation — a first degree felony — and taken to the Jefferson County Jail. They are expected to be transferred to the Orange County Jail on Tuesday, reports 12NEWS.
“I want to thank the men and women of the Orange County Sheriff’s Department for their hard work, crime solving skills, and collegiality,” Bearden said in a statement. “I will forever be in their debt.”
Following the arrests, Immigration and Customs Enforcement placed detainer requests on all three illegal aliens. Under a new state anti-sanctuary cities law, all municipal and county jails in Texas must honor requests from federal immigration authorities to hold criminal aliens until agents can take the suspects into custody.
