German Chancellor Angela Merkel said Europe “must take its fate into its own hands” Sunday as the U.S. and the United Kingdom are looking after their own interests.

Merkel warned of changing relations after Brexit and the election of President Donald Trump. She said a division within the western alliance became evident during the G7 meeting in Italy this weekend.

“The times in which we could completely depend on others are on the way out. I’ve experienced that in the last few days,” Merkel said at a campaign rally in Munich. “We Europeans truly have to take our fate into our own hands.”

While Europe will stay close to its traditional allies, “we have to fight for our own destiny,” according to Merkel.

She described climate talks with Trump during the G7 as “very unsatisfying” Saturday. Trump left the summit as the only leader to not commit to the Paris Agreement.

“The Paris deal isn’t just any other deal,” she said Saturday, according to Deutsche Welle. “It is a key agreement that shapes today’s globalization.”

Merkel is trying to secure a fourth term as chancellor in the Sept. 24 election.

“We don’t need any experiments,” Merkel said at the rally. “We need a stable government for Germany and we’ll fight for it together.”
