Salma Hayek believes the current political climate in America is in a dark place.
The Mexican born actress was speaking at a Cinema Society screening of her new film “Beatriz at Dinner” when she claimed “the country has never been so politically divided,” Page Six reports.

“It’s become a little bit of a comedy,” Hayek continued. “Sometimes a comedy of errors, most of the time a dark comedy, the political climate in this country.”
Hayek has been open about her criticisms of Donald Trump and has adamantly voiced her opposition of his proposed border wall between the United States and her home country.
“It’s my hope that we have a deeper understanding and willingness to have a conversation between different ideologies, and a stronger understanding of the things that bind us together.”
The 50-year-old actresses description of America is similar to how the Los Angeles Times described her new movie, and it’s probably not by coincidence.

“‘Beatriz at Dinner’ is a darkly comic fantasy about an empathetic, nature-loving Latina healer who comes face to face with a racist, vulgar, thoroughly despicable member of the 1%,” the L.A. Times writes.
“It wouldn’t take a particularly attentive viewer to deduce that ‘Beatriz at Dinner’ is a barbed allegory for the Trump era,” the L.A. Times review stated.
While politics seems to have turned to comedy for our countries’ entertainers, the work they do in hopes to entertain has now morphed into political commentary and it’s only getting worse.
