After the latest attack in London on Saturday, the British authorities finally got the courage to classify the perpetrators, they were of “Mediterranean origin” the British public was informed. In the period after the terrorist attack in Manchester, the electronic edition of The New York Times was very eager to highlight the fact that the perpetrator was a native born, a Briton as its headline readily declared. It’s interesting to see the intellectual capital spent in an effort to create the greater distance possible between the act of terror and it’s almost certain Islamic source.
In these particular cases, the exertion to present the news in a certain manner only serves to demonstrate the ever-deepening deficiencies of the multicultural model. The geographic location of someone’s birth does not guarantee his allegiance and cultural outlook, especially in a political environment that promotes and evangelizes multiculturalism. The official narrative tried to sell the stories of the attacks as aiming to divide an ethnically diverse community. But many Europeans saw the terrorist attacks differently. They saw them as another action in building up the assent and authority of a new barbarous force in their own society. These acts of terror signifying a new order in which centuries old European traditions and liberties are under continuous attack from those who are supposed to adopt them and those charged to protect them.
When the British soldier, Lee Rigby, was murdered in Southeast London by two Islamic extremists, the police although unable to save Rigby’s life, it was ready to raid private residences in the middle of the night for inappropriate comments on twitter and Facebook. The newspaper Independent quoted back then the police announcing that “We began inquiries into the comments and at around 3.20am two men, aged 23 and 22, were detained at two addresses in Bristol. The men were arrested under the Public Order Act on suspicion of inciting racial or religious hatred. Our inquiries into these comments continue.”
Contrast this we the thousands of cases of clitoridectomies that are discovered in UK hospitals but only a tiny fraction of them are being investigated because citizens and government authorities are in fear of being perceived as insensitive to cultural differences. Nevertheless, as Euronews reported, the “British government estimates at least 170,000 women and girls are living with the consequences of having the procedure – and a further 65,000 girls under the age of 13 are at risk.”
Consider the case of the city of Rotherrham were as BBC reported “at least 1,400 children were subjected to appalling sexual exploitation in Rotherham between 1997 and 2013, a report has found. Children as young as 11 were raped by multiple perpetrators, abducted, trafficked to other cities in England, beaten and intimidated.” “The inquiry team found examples of “children who had been doused in petrol and threatened with being set alight, threatened with guns, made to witness brutally violent rapes and threatened they would be next if they told anyone”. According to the report on the case “Several staff described their nervousness about identifying the ethnic origins of perpetrators for fear of being thought as racist; others remembered clear direction from their managers not to do so.” And so, the cases piled up because nobody in government wanted to be perceived as a racist.
The essence of the above cases is something that every European understands. These are not exceptions to the rule, and neither aberrations in a rather serene multicultural social environment. This is exactly what would happen if mass immigration were allowed by a political elite that has come to regard western civilization with postmodern contempt. Mass immigration would create some gigantic challenges on its own, but in a social-political environment where the political class, the academy and the media present the history and culture of western civilization as the world’s longest guilty plea, there is not any real hope that the immigrants will choose to assimilate. It’s not surprising at all, that the two murderers of Lee Rigby were of Nigerian descent who had left Christianity and converted to Islam. They had converted to the only available system of beliefs that was self-confident, vibrant and demanded assimilation.
There is assimilation going on in Europe, but is a reverse assimilation, where the natives must adjust to the cultural norms and expectations of the immigrants. The political class is merely there to create the conditions where the de-Europeanization happens, with each policy creating the next stage of that process, and when that stage has materialized, it is presented as a fait accompli, impossible to adjust or alter, an immovable fact of contemporary life. Open borders were not sold as the means of mass immigration, but this is exactly what would happen, and when it did happen, it had to be accepted as an irreversible reality. Mass immigration begets cultural adjustments, and when these cultural adjustments had to be made by the native population, this was another instance of a modern life inevitability.
Gradually more and more Europeans begin to realize that they are governed by a political class too aloof and arrogant to take the worries of ordinary people seriously. Blind and deaf in its pursuit of the latest utopia, mass immigration’s multicultural society, it will ignore any fact, it will smear every concern and it will suppress all truth in order to achieve its radical transformation of the nations of Europe. Assimilating Europe is a postmodern fantasy with pre-modern consequences.
