Adam Driver surprised a military family on Tuesday when he showed up at their home and presented them with a college scholarship for their daughter, who is studying to be a nurse.
The scholarship, funded by Budweiser and the Folds of Honor foundation, provides educational scholarships for the children and spouses of disabled and fallen service men and women.
The actor and Marine Corps veteran, who is best known for his role as Kylo Ren in “Star Wars: The Force Awakens,” drove to a military family’s home to deliver the scholarship granted to Hayley Grace Williams, whose father John Williams was injured during a training exercise before Operation Desert Storm.
John still suffers from severe back pain as a result of the injury, but he also suffers from the emotional guilt of being unable to go to war with his fellow soldiers. Driver comes from a similar experience as he was injured before the rest of his platoon deployed to Iraq.
With the Williams’ financial situation, the burden of paying for school was all on Hayley’s shoulders. She was working 40 hours a week just to pay her final year and it still wasn’t enough.
Now, thanks to the scholarship, she doesn’t have to worry about it anymore and the relief that it provided for her parents is abundantly clear in the video.
