San Jose State University (SJSU) compels its freshman to pay for microaggression training, according to a university announcement reported Monday.
Kathleen Wong, chief diversity officer for SJSU, announced the training would be part of a $250 orientation on Twitter, reported Campus Reform. Incoming freshmen for the 2017-2018 year will be shown a video containing microaggression skits filmed by students at the university and must attend the viewing in order to enroll in classes.

A FAQ page for the orientation states that attendance at all components of the orientation is mandatory and that failing to attend the entire event would result in students being prohibited from registering for courses.
“Title IX requires San Jose State to ensure our students have access to all educational opportunities provided here,” Pat Harris, director of media relations at SJSU, to Campus Reform. “Given our obligations under Title IX, SJSU provides training at freshmen orientation to ensure students understand their rights and responsibilities.”
