New York Republican Rep. Lee Zeldin said Tuesday reports of Donald Trump Jr. meeting with a Russian lawyer during the 2016 campaign is just a “condiment” on a “nothing burger.”

Zeldin was asked on about the meeting with the Kremlin-connected lawyer, Natalia Veselnitskaya, in an appearance on CNN. “You’ve called this whole story a ‘nothing burger,'” the host said. “What is a ‘nothing burger’ about a campaign meeting with a Russian lawyer?”

Zeldin said it’s not just a nothing burger, but just some “condiment” on the nothing burger: “I was asked about this yesterday before this New York Times story which is now an allegation of maybe some condiment on this nothing burger. There are key elements that are missing.”

When asked if the allegations turn out to be true, if he would still be fine with Trump Jr.’s meeting, Zeldin responded saying, “Any American campaign at any level from President of The United States to the local level, we do not meet with foreign, hostile governments to get information to damage political opponents.”

Donald Trump Jr. released several emails Tuesday, that changed Zeldin’s view on the Russia “nothing burger.”

The emails show the meeting is a big “no-no,” he tweeted.
