Netflix recently released the full trailer for its upcoming show “Ozark.”
The plot of the show, according to Netflix, is, “The Byrdes, husband and wife Marty (Jason Bateman) and Wendy (Laura Linney), their teenage kids Charlotte (Sofia Hublitz) and Jonah (Skylar Gaertner) — are for all intents and purposes an ordinary family. Ordinary save for Marty’s job: The top money launderer for the second largest drug cartel in Mexico.”
The trailer previews plenty of dark and twisted moments as the drug cartel members and federal agents hunt down the Byrdes.
“Ozark” seems to be a darker version of the hit FX show “Justified,” which also had a large focus on drugs, law enforcement and men running from their violent pasts.
The commercial success of “Justified” meant that it was only a matter of time before somebody took the concept and tweaked it.
Judging from the trailer it looks like “Ozark” will live up to the same mindset of violence, despair and corruption in the forgotten places in America.
It will be released July 21.
