Secretary of Ryan Zinke will recommend President Donald Trump leave Colorado’s Canyons of the Ancients National Monument unchanged, according to a Department of the Interior press release.

Zinke made the announcement Friday after reviewing the site and requesting local input on the necessity of federal protection for the 178,000 acre space.

“Canyons of the Ancients is gorgeous land, but its monument status as the most high-density Native American archaeological sites in the nation is clear,” Zinke said in the press release. “The history at this site spans thousands of years, and the federal protection of these objects and history will help us preserve this site for a thousand more years.”

The review came as a part of President Donald Trump’s Executive Order to review all national monuments over 100,000 acres and designated under the Antiquities Act of 1906.

Colorado GOP Rep. Scott Tipton celebrated Zinke’s announcement on Facebook.

“I am pleased that Secretary Zinke and the Department of the Interior recognize the cultural and historic significance of Canyons of the Ancients National Monument and will make no changes to the designation,” Tipton said in a post. “[GOP] Senator [Cory] Gardner and I made the case for maintaining the monument as is in May, and I have been encouraged to see the Secretary place a high value on local input throughout this process.”
