The founder of Patagonia, the outdoor apparel company that has pledged to lead the resistance against President Donald Trump, called Trump’s voters “rednecks.”

“Why should we kowtow to these redneck voters and Republican politicians?” said Yvon Chouinard, Patagonia’s eccentric founder and billionaire environmentalist, according to consultant Steve Everly. “The most you can achieve is a compromise, and that never solves a problem.”

Everley, managing director of FTI consulting, also mocked the company for being hypocritical.

Patagonia’s CEO, Rose Marcario, has recently pledged that the company will take on Trump when it comes to natural resource issues and the environment.

“We have to fight like hell to keep every inch of public land,” Marcario told the Huffington Post in May. “I don’t have a lot of faith in politics and politicians right now.”

The company is concerned over Republican plans to return federal land back to the states. Republican lawmakers want the president to reverse one of former President Barack Obama’s final acts, where he set aside 1.35 million acres in Utah to create the Bears Ears National Monument.

The Trump administration wants to shrink the area set aside by Obama, much to the chagrin of outdoor companies, like Patagonia, that profit off of federally protected national parks through the sale of outdoor goods to prospective visitors.
