Amazon founder Jeff Bezos is now the wealthiest man in the world, according to a CNBC report published Thursday.

With a fortune valued at more than $90 billion, the technology entrepreneur surpasses Microsoft founder Bill Gates, who is estimated to have a net worth also around $90 billion.

Bezos essentially eclipsed Gates as Amazon’s share price jumped by at least $15 a share overnight, while Microsoft continues to stall, according to CNBC. If the stock price stays at the current level, then Bezos will add more than $800 million to his already deep pockets. Amazon’s stock isn’t guaranteed to plateau or continue growing, as the market naturally fluctuates, but his ability to transcend Gates (albeit potentially temporarily) shows that Bezos could have a tighter grip on the title of world’s richest.

However, Bezos’ affluential ascension is more telling of his tech conglomerate’s power. The company has steadily risen through the ranks of Silicon Valley, growing from a relatively simple e-commerce service many years ago to a company with a stake in several industries, like cloud computing technology and video streaming.
