Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti is reportedly set to announce Monday night that Los Angeles will host the Olympics in 2028.

It would be the third time that L.A. has hosted the Olympics — it hosted in 1932, 1984 — and the first time since 1996 that the host city was in America.

The International Olympic Committee announced in June it would name the next two hosts for the next two Olympics in the coming future. Since then, L.A. had been competing with Paris to host the games in 2024. Garcetti originally favored to host the 2024 Games, but would accept the opportunity for 2028.

“I don’t want the Olympics at any price,” Garcetti told ESPN earlier this year. “I won’t accept these Games if they put the city in debt or at risk. I won’t do it if there’s not a genuine human legacy and instead it’s just a vanity party for 2½ weeks.”

Garcetti later stated it “would be stupid not to take 2028.”

The official announcement and further details will be made at 8 p.m. ET Monday night.
