WASHINGTON—Michigan Democratic Sen. Debbie Stabenow says Kid Rock’s interest in challenging her in 2018 does not concern her much because the four-way Republican Senate primary and concert schedule will be hard enough on him.
A poll last week by Delphi Analytica showed the Michigan rock and roller, born Robert Ritchie Jr., four points ahead of Stabenow in a head to head match up. However, Stabenow discounted the poll. A more recent Target-Insyght showed Stabenow just eight points ahead of Kid Rock, The Detroit News reported Tuesday. “Well, I haven’t seen a legitimate poll that showed him ahead, but what I would say is we’re a long way from the campaign. He’s going to be busy. He’s got concerts and there’s four people so far in the Republican primary, so I think if he gets in, he’s going to be busy,” Stabenow told The Daily Caller on Wednesday.
But what if Rock were to officially declare his candidacy for the Michigan Senate seat and beat his opponents in the primary?
“Well, you know, for me, it’s not about who’s running on the other side. It’s about the families of Michigan. And as far as I’m concerned, this is about my continuing to fight for them every day. That’s what I do,” Stabenow said. “I’ve lived in Michigan my whole life–raised my family. I get up every day and fight for Michigan. And so that’s — that’s what my focus is.”
She later added, “It’ll be interesting to watch the Republican primary–four-way primary.”
Rock, in a statement last week, said he created a 501(c)4 organization in an effort to explore his candidacy for U.S. Senate. “One thing is for sure though, The Democrats are ‘shattin’ in their pantaloons’ right now… and rightfully so!” Rock said. He added: “And if I decide to throw my hat in the ring for US Senate, believe me,” he assures, “it’s game on mthrf——.”
