I’ve had an Amazon Echo (and an Amazon Echo Dot) for a while now, and as you’ve surely seen when reading Daily Dealer articles, I’ve loved it. My roommates and I now take for granted the ability to ask Alexa to play any song that pops into our heads. The only downside of the Alexa might be all the weight I’ve gained due to ease of saying “Alexa, order pizza.”

However, there had always been one big selling point of Alexa-connected devices that I never took advantage of: the ability to connect them to home appliances. I’ve always wanted to say, “Alexa, turn off the lights” (and may very well have done so in jest), but I never had the technology. But I found out that that technology is oh so easy not only to obtain but also to install. And with these exclusive codes, they can be yours for over half off.

This week, I’ve tried out a smart plug and a smart switch, both by a company called Oittm. When I got them, I had no idea how long they would take me to install. I was pleasantly surprised to find that they took no time at all. For the smart plug, all you have to do is install an app and tell Alexa to “discover the device.” Then, voila! You name the device whatever you want – I went with “lamp,” because I plugged a lamp into it – and then can control it via Alexa. I impressed my roommates with my repeated instructions: “Alexa turn on the lamp. Alexa turn off the lamp.” In addition to voice command, the switch can also be controlled from the smartphone app.

Somehow, this revolutionary technology is just $15 with the exclusive code GO5SDEVB:

The wall switch takes a little longer to install, and Oittm recommends that you have a trained electrician do it. It is not hard to do yourself, however, as long as you follow basic electrotechnical security principles. That is, before you embark on replacing your normal light switch with this one, please make sure you know how to install a light switch.

After regular light switch installation, the rest of the setup for the wall switch is just as simple as for the plug. Go ahead and name it “light” and be amazed after telling Alexa to “turn on the light.” This revolutionary technology is on sale for $23 with the code 3CELBIIT.

If you get both of these devices, you can even do what we did after setting them up. Since we plugged a lamp into the smart plug, we grouped the two devices together under the phrase “lights.” So when we say “turn on the lights,” both the lamp and the dining room lights respond accordingly. Not only can they be controlled from the app, but they can also be put on a timer, to turn on and/or off at a certain schedule.

These deals expire at the end of the month, on August 31. So if you have an Amazon Alexa device, take advantage of this deal while you still can.
