Jamie Gorelick, the Hillary Clinton-supporting superlawyer representing Jared Kushner and Ivanka Trump, is now working pro bono for the city of Chicago in its lawsuit against the Department of Justice.
Chicago is suing the DOJ over President Trump’s policies regarding federal grants for so-called sanctuary cities. Attorney General Jeff Sessions announced last month that cities that receive federal crime-fighting grants must also cooperate with U.S. immigration agencies regarding illegal aliens.
But Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel says that the Windy City will not comply with the order. He announced a lawsuit on Monday.
According to CNN, Gorelick — a partner at Wilmer Hale — is one of the attorneys representing Chicago.
Gorelick’s work for Kushner and Ivanka Trump has raised questions in the past because she is a staunch Democrat. A donor to Hillary Clinton’s various political campaigns, Gorelick served as general counsel at the Defense Department and deputy attorney general during the Bill Clinton administration.
Gorelick was initially hired by Kushner and Trump to help the couple navigate the security clearance process required for their White House positions.
Last month, she announced that she would no longer be handling Russia-related matters for Kushner but would still bed advising him on other issues. In her statement announcing the decision, Gorelick noted that Special Counsel Robert Mueller — who is leading the Russia probe — was a partner at Wilmer Hale.
Abbe Lowell, another Democratic superlawyer, now handles all Russia matters for Kushner.
