A Washington, D.C., firefighter is under investigation after he showed up to the job appearing to be under the influence and was later assaulted, resulting in a broken jaw.

Greg Green, 34, a firefighter and medic for the D.C. Fire EMS was called to assist a 3-year-old named Aubrey who reportedly fell from her bed Sunday afternoon, according to WUSA9.

The parents of the 3-year-old believed their daughter might have hurt her back and neck but refused to let the allegedly intoxicated firefighter address the situation, according to Fox5 Monday.

“(He yelled) ‘pick her up, pick her up,’ yelling at me, so I picked her up, take her outside and this is when he starts falling up the steps so everyone is like ‘he’s drunk.’ That’s when it really kicked into my mind that he was drunk. I looked at his partner and his partner told me ‘he was a little bit sick,'” said Lamont Jennings, the father of Aubrey, reported Fox5.

Upon walking to the car, a few men attacked Green who broke his jaw and was brought to the hospital, reported officials to Fox5.

“His people (fellow firefighters) thought he was OK.,” said Green’s mother to WUSA9, adding that, “They would have never let Greg go out on a call like that. What the people did to him was totally unnecessary. Who does that?”

Police are currently leading an investigation to determine the identities of the men who attacked the firefighter.
