The CEO of Intel announced his departure from President Donald Trump’s American Manufacturing Council in a late Monday blog post.
The tech CEO, Brian Krzanich, joined the ranks of two other prominent CEOs to leave Trump’s council due to the president’s handling of the violence at the white supremacist rally in Charlottesville, Va., reports CNBC.
“I have already made clear my abhorrence at the recent hate-spawned violence in Charlottesville, and earlier today I called on all leaders to condemn the white supremacists and their ilk who marched and committed violence. I resigned because I want to make progress, while many in Washington seem more concerned with attacking anyone who disagrees with them,” Krzanich said. “We should honor – not attack – those who have stood up for equality and other cherished American values.”
Krzanich added that he resigned to bring awareness to the “divided political climate” in America and that should things change, he would be willing to serve on the council in the future. Two other CEOs stepped down from the council after Trump took more than two days to explicitly condemn white supremacists and the neo-Nazis at the rally for their displays of violence.
Merck CEO Kenneth Frazier left the council early Monday after saying Trump did not condemn white supremacists strongly enough in his original statement.
“America’s leaders must honor our fundamental values by clearly rejecting expressions of hatred, bigotry, and group supremacy, which run counter to the American ideal that all people are created equal,” Frazier said in his statement.
The CEO of Under Armor, Kevin Plank, also quit to focus on unity in light of Trump’s statement.
“I love our country & company,” Plank said over Twitter. “I am stepping down from the council to focus on inspiring & uniting through power of sport.”
