Axios political reporter Jonathan Swan had some blunt criticism for the Democratic National Committee on Monday morning.

MSNBC’s “Morning Joe” host Joe Scarborough asked Swan what Democrats on the hill are saying about the struggles of their party.

“Well I think one of the biggest problems is the DNC brand is a disaster,” Swan said. “I mean, the party brand has been so wrecked over the last year, Wikileaks has played into that, and what you hear when you talk to people on the hill is all of the energy is outside of the party.”

“It’s kind of diffused,” Swan said of the Democrats’ political energy. “They’re still looking for a direction.”

Swan also guessed that the Democrats have to come up with a core brand and message prior to 2020 because they could be looking at very different races, depending on which direction they choose.

“There still is no clear direction for this party,” he asserted. “You hear such different figures for 2020. A Cory Booker presidency would look much different from an Elizabeth Warren presidency and the party needs to figure that out.”
