The first AP college football poll has been released, and Alabama finds itself at the top of the rankings.

Alabama might be ranked number one, but the SEC isn’t doing so hot after that. The conference doesn’t have another team in the top ten.

The top ten are as follows:

1. Alabama

2. Ohio State

3. Florida State

4. USC

5. Clemson

6. Penn State

7. Oklahoma

8. Washington

9. Wisconsin

10. Oklahoma State

The first, and most obvious observation, is the fact the Big Ten put three teams in the top nine. Ohio State, Wisconsin and Penn State are all top-tier programs right now, and all of them could walk away with a national championship by the end of the season. Michigan is pegged currently at 11, giving the conference four outstanding teams.

We’re only a few days out from college football, and this poll has me salivating more than ever. Saturday can’t get here quick enough.
