RECAP:

North Korea has released video footage of the ballistic missile it fired over Japan into the Pacific Ocean Monday.

The reclusive regime launched a Hwasong-12 intermediate-range ballistic missile from a location just north of the capital city of Pyongyang, an unusual launch location for an unusually-provocative test.

The launch was personally overseen by North Korean dictator Kim Jong-un, according to North Korean state media reports.

The North has signaled that it will continue launching missiles into the Pacific Ocean, establishing a new norm for strategic weapons testing. “It is necessary to positively push forward the work for putting the strategic force on a modern basis by conducting more ballistic rocket launching drills with the Pacific as a target in the future,” North Korean state media reported Wednesday.

North Korea also warned that the test was a precursor to possible strikes on or around Guam, with the Korean Central News Agency calling the test a “meaningful prelude to containing Guam,” which the North considers an essential forward base for an attack on its territory.

President Donald Trump condemned the launch Tuesday, adding that “all options are on the table.” The president previously threatened to rain down “fire and fury” on North Korea if it did anything to endanger American lives.
