President Donald Trump joked that he is “speaking against” himself with his tax reform measures, touting how they will help the middle class.

Trump spoke about tax reform efforts in Springfield, Missouri on Wednesday, one day after he visited Texas to help with the Hurricane Harvey relief effort.

“Tax reform must dramatically simplify the tax code, eliminate special interest loopholes, and I’m speaking against myself when I do this, I have to tell you,” Trump said, implying that his tax reform efforts could negatively impact the upper class.

“And I might be speaking against Mr. Cook,” he joked, referring to the head of the Loren Cook Company where Trump was speaking.

“But we’re both okay with that, isn’t that right?” POTUS said to Loren Cook. “It’s crazy… maybe we shouldn’t be doing this, you know?”

“But we’re doing the right thing,” Trump concluded to applause.
