A car that got near the presidential motorcade Wednesday had brake failure and was not attempting to attack the president.

A video emerged Wednesday that showed a white vehicle popping out of the woods as President Trump drove through Springfield, Missouri. The car stopped on the side of the road and was later confronted by Secret Service agents. Several news outlets then ran with stories claiming the car seemed like it was attempting to ram the motorcade.

A Secret Service spokesman told The Daily Caller: “The vehicle traveled through a nearby business parking lot and lightly wooded area that was separated from the highway by a drainage ditch and a sidewalk. The vehicle slowly traversed through the drainage ditch, up an embankment, and came to a stop along the sidewalk and embankment without entering the roadway of the motorcade route. The vehicle was promptly intercepted by Secret Service agents traveling in the motorcade.”

“An investigation by Secret Service agents and Springfield Police officers revealed the vehicle had experienced a total failure of its braking system. The vehicle did not make contact with any motorcade vehicles and there was no alteration of the motorcade route. A security sweep of the vehicle was conducted with negative results. Subsequently, the vehicle was towed from the scene by the Springfield Police Department.”
