A hospital in Utah warned police officers to stay away from its nurses, in a response to the aggressive arrest of a nurse that refused to draw blood from a patient.

The University of Utah Hospital called out the Salt Lake City Police Department at a press conference for the manhandling and arrest of burn unit nurse Alex Wubbels, 41, after she refused to take a blood sample of an unconscious patient since it infringed on hospital policy.

“This will not happen again,” Gordon Crabtree, the interim CEO at The University of Utah Hospital, said at the press conference, adding that Wubbels put “her own safety at risk.”

WATCH:

The hospital implemented a new policy to protect nurses against a potential repeat scenario. Police are no longer allowed in patient care areas and now need house supervisors when they have requests for nurses.

The paramedic that arrested Wubbard was fired from his position Wednesday.
