Teresa Jo Burchfield, the wife of an ethics attorney for President Donald Trump’s business organization, was arrested Tuesday after guards found her having sex with an inmate in a prison parking lot.

Burchfield, 53, is married to Bobby R. Burchfield, a lawyer whose firm is serving as an ethics consultant for Trump’s business organization, Donald J. Revocable Trust, the Fauquier Times reported Thursday. Guards arrested Burchfield after they found that she had given the 23-year-old inmate trustee cigarettes, clothes, and vitamin supplements.

The inmate qualified for trustee status due to serving time for minor charges. Trustees are allowed to work outside of the prison, apparently without supervision, which facilitated the sexual encounter.

While police declined to identify the inmate, only two 23-year-olds are currently detained in the Fauquier County Adult Detention Center, according to the county sheriff’s office. And only one of those inmates, Malcolm Tapscott, is serving time for a charge minor enough to qualify for the trustee program. It is unclear what connection, if any, Tapscott has with Burchfield.

Burchfield’s husband has a long history of working for Republican politicians. He supplied legal services to former President George W. Bush’s presidential campaign for the vote recount in 2000. Now, he is a partner at Washington’s King and Spaulding, a legal firm serving as an ethics consultant to Trump’s trust.

Burchfield faces misdemeanor charges of providing unauthorized articles to an inmate. She was released on a $5,000 bond soon after her arrest.
