Miami’s famous art deco hotels are bracing for Hurricane Irma after a mandatory evacuation Thursday in South Beach, Fla.

The hotels, usually bustling with tourists, are boarded up to prevent serious damage from the storm, Buzzfeed News reported. The Art Deco Historic District features hotels built in the 1920s, 30s, and early 40s, and boasts the largest collection in the world.

“This is a serious storm. I’ve called it a nuclear hurricane,” Miami Beach Mayor Philip Levine said.

The National Hotel, a famous art deco hotel on the boardwalk, handed out a list of evacuation shelters for tourists visiting from around the world, The Washington Post reported.

“You will be on your own. It’s not a place you want to be. I can’t stress it enough. Get off Miami beach,” Levine said.

If the hurricane passes quickly, the hotels are set to reopen Monday.
