Ladies and gentlemen, I have seven months for a famous woman to send me a direct message.
Yesterday, I wrote a piece about how I think there’s a double standard when it comes to men and women getting direct messages from members of the opposite sex. I pretty much argued that it’s way easier for women, which it is. I also opined about the fact I’ve never had a famous woman DM me, despite the fact I’ve got the Midwest good looks, dashing blue eyes, and I’m a book of knowledge on sports.
Some of my enlightened coworkers and I got into a heated debate about whether or not I could ever get a famous woman to hit up my DMs. Well, we’re about to find out just how easy or hard it truly is. After about half an hour of debate, we finally settled on some ground rules.
They are as follows:
1) The woman must have at least a million followers on social media.
2) I am not allowed to contact them first. They must contact me first. Obviously the whole purpose of this would be defeated if I sent the initial message. Messages can come through on any platform. Twitter, E-mail ([email protected]), Facebook or however they get it to me.
3) It must be completed before April 18, 2018. I turn 26 on April 17, and we’ve agreed on this deadline for this experiment.
It seems like people are pretty split on whether or not I have the clout to draw the attention of famous women. Some people think there isn’t any chance this will work in the next seven months. Others are extremely confident I will get it done.
If I’m being honest, I think I fall somewhere in the middle. I’m optimistic, but I also realize this is an uphill battle. It’s especially going to be tough when you consider the fact I don’t even have Instagram.
America loves a great underdog story, so stay tuned to find out what happens. We’ll be closely following this experiment over the next seven months.
