Fox News contributor Bernie Goldberg called out University of California, Berkeley protesters for their response to Ben Shapiro’s speech Friday, saying it’s impossible for speech to be violence.

“Speech is never violence. Speech may be something the sissy boys on campus don’t like. It may hurt their feelings, but speech is not violence,” Goldberg told Fox News. “And it shows that these leftists are on top of everything else, they’re not too smart.”

Shapiro was greeted by a mass of protesters Thursday night, some of whom were from Antifa, and told the audience that Berkeley had to pay out $600,000 just to keep him out of harms way.

“Ben Shapiro, whose by the way only crime … is that he had conservative views that leftists didn’t want to hear. The good news is he got to speak. The bad news as you just reported is that it cost $600,000 to make sure he could speak without getting beaten up,” Goldberg said.

Goldberg blamed university faculty and administrators for encouraging radical left wing students and said they were once young radicals themselves.

“University presidents and deans for far too long have allowed left wing students to disrupt and shut down conservative speakers. Faculty members, professors who were once radical students themselves never condemned this kind of stuff. In some cases they encouraged it,” he said. “If somebody in power had expelled students early on in this ridiculous game … I don’t think we’d be at this point today.”

Goldberg said college administrators want to keep the students “as infants” and that will lead to a rude awakening for them once they get out into the real world.

“This is part of how university presidents and administrators help keep these kids as infants. They need to grow up. And you know what, when they leave college and if they pull a stunt like this, I hope their employer throws them the hell out of the office. Because somebody needs to do that.”
