New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio took time off from governing Tuesday to declare Sept. 19 “Morning Joe Day” in the Big Apple.
Guests gathered in front of a live studio audience to celebrate the MSNBC show’s 10-year anniversary. De Blasio told the story of the first time he saw “Morning Joe” before presenting the hosts with a framed proclamation to honor their 10-year run.
“January 2008, I was out working on the Iowa caucuses in a small town in Iowa. I’m staying in a Motel 6. I turn on the TV early in the morning and I saw something I never saw before. Which was an intelligent conversation, that really gripped me. And I’ve been watching ever since,” he told hosts Joe Scarborough and Mika Brzezinski.
De Blasio secured the endorsement of New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo, but still faces a tough reelection fight this November. His approval ratings have been stagnant and continue to hover near the 50 percent mark.
