The North Korean delegation was initially assigned a front-row seat right in front of the podium, but when the president spoke, the senior North Korean representative walked out, leaving behind a junior diplomat, according to NBC.

Trump issued a stark warning to the North Koreans during his address.

“North Korea’s reckless pursuit of nuclear weapons and ballistic missiles threatens the entire world,” the president said. “The United States is a nation of great strength and patience, but if it is forced to defend itself or its allies, we will have no choice but to totally destroy North Korea.”

“The United States is ready willing and able, but hopefully this will not be necessary,” he added.

North Korea has been advancing its ballistic missile and nuclear weapons programs at an accelerated rate. The country tested an intercontinental ballistic missile capable of striking targets across the U.S. twice in July, and earlier in September, the North successfully detonated a suspected staged thermonuclear bomb.

North Korea is also been pursuing a new missile testing program, one in which it launches ballistic missiles over the Japan into the Pacific Ocean on a regular basis.

Pyongyang asserts that U.S. hostile policy justifies North Korea’s development of increasingly-powerful weaponry. Critics of Trump’s speech claim that the president is playing into the regime’s hands by providing proof of threat. Those in favor of Trump’s statements, however, believe that he is taking a stand against a country that has been an international problem child for decades.

The North Korean regime has threatened to turn South Korea, Japan, and the U.S. into seas of fire on many different occasions. Pyongyang recently threatened to beat the U.S. to death like a rabid dog, sink Japan into the sea, and wipe out South Korea with fire.
