Investigators found infant remains Monday while performing a routine eviction at an apartment building in Fountain Inn, S.C.

The local police department was helping to evict tenants at Fountain Hills apartments when investigators discovered a baby at approximately 38-weeks gestation hidden in a sealed container, reported Fox News. The baby died about 10 to 11 months ago.

“We are being very methodical about this case in particular,” Fountain Inn Police Chief Keith Morton told FOX Carolina.”We will examine every piece of evidence thoroughly. It is unclear if the fetus was a boy or girl.”

Officials placed the mother in detention; however, no charges are currently filed. Further lab testing will steer investigators on next steps to take.

“You never know who you’re living around,” said Phyllis Taylor, a fellow resident in the apartment complex, reported FOX Carolina.
