A woman was arrested Tuesday in Abington, Va., 27 years after dressing as a clown and killing her love rival.

Sheila Keen Warren, 54, was charged with first-degree murder after shooting her husband’s former wife Marlene Warren, 40, on the front porch in Wellington, Fla., in May 1990, while disguised as a clown,  according to NBC News. She was allegedly having an affair with the victim’s husband, reported the New York Daily News.

Warren, 27 at the time, was holding balloons and flowers before shooting the victim in the face as she answered her door. Her son allegedly heard a gunshot and watched a clown drive away. The victim died two days later in the hospital.

While Warren was a suspect in the murder, prosecutors never possessed the technology to investigate the DNA evidence. However, the case was reopened in 2014 following the discovery of new technology.

“Any murder’s horrific. It doesn’t matter whether you’re wearing a clown costume or not,” said Richard McAfee, Sergeant of Palm Beach County at a news conference.

In another bizarre twist to the case, Michael Warren, the victim’s husband, served three years in prison in 1992 on separate charges of odometer tampering, grand theft and racketeering. He later married Sheila Keen Warren in 2002.

Warren will be arraigned Wednesday afternoon in Washington County General District Court.
