CBS might have a monster hit on its hands in “SEAL Team.”

Wednesday night was the premiere episode, and I couldn’t remember the last time I was this excited for a new show on broadcast television. I cracked open a beer, made some popcorn and settled in to catch all the action.

It didn’t disappoint. David Boreanaz leads the cast of the elite military squad. The first episode had plenty of action, a realistic plot of a hostage rescue for the first episode and the foundation is starting to be laid for problems within the team.

Lots of military shows and movies come off as unrealistic. They feel centered on tough guy meatheads who just blow away everything in front of them. That isn’t “SEAL Team” at all.

Instead, this show spends a lot of time on the preparation and training that goes into the missions, and it doesn’t hide from how awful war can get.

Hopefully the show doesn’t drop off after a great first episode because I think we might have a winner here.
