“Mr. Joe, if I can call you that,” Berman said before asking Fat Joe about the federal response to Hurricane Maria in Puerto Rico.

“I have aunts and uncles in Puerto Rico, I still haven’t talked to them,” Fat Joe replied.  “I don’t know whether they’re dead or they’re alive. there’s no communication, there’s no power. You know when you have been people waiting on lines for six, seven hours to get three bottles of water and a little something to feed their family, that’s why we had to motivate ourselves.”

Fat Joe’s real name is Joseph Antonio Cartagen, and was raised in New York City by parents of Puerto Rican and Cuban descent.

His most popular song is the 2004 hit “Lean Back,” released by the rap group Terror Squad and also featuring Remy Ma.
