Rapper T.I. told TMZ Wednesday night that “as long as the criminals have” assault rifles, he thinks the “citizens should” be able to as well.

The 37-year-old rapper’s comments came in response to the outlet asking him if he thought gun laws should be changed after the Las Vegas massacre that left more than 50 people dead and hundreds injured Sunday night. (RELATED: Rapper T.I. Attacks Trump After He Called Out Snoop Dogg)

Even though T.I. can’t personally own firearms, that didn’t stop him from voicing his support of American’s having the right to protect themselves.

“I mean, to me, as long as the criminals have them, I think citizens should be able to have them,” T.I. explained, before adding that he would be okay with the idea of some kind of mental screening process.

“I think there should be mental evaluations,” the rapper shared. “The same for people who running for president, by the way.” The last part was an obvious dig at President Donald Trump, who he has been very outspoken against.

He also said he had no plans to change security at his concerts in light of the deadly shooting.

The rapper previously served time behind bars for illegal possession of machine guns and silencers.
