Make no mistake: while the Second Amendment is a boon for hunters and sport shooters as well, the most important use of our gun rights is personal self-defense and the ability to resist tyranny.

Here are three recent videos from countries with significantly more stringent gun control than the United States that demonstrate why the Second Amendment is always necessary.

South Africa

Footage captured in South Africa Sunday shows a shocking car-jacking by heavily armed men. The driver of the car is utterly defenseless.

WATCH:

The woman was abandoned by a security guard who fled for his safety, News 24 reports.

While South Africa does protect the right to bear arms, citizens must obtain a “Licence to possess firearm for self-defence,” only available after demonstrating a need to possess a firearm for self-defense. This is far more regulation than the United States.

Australia

A video from September shows an Australian supermarket robbery where an employee is slashed in the face with a machete. Something tells me this would have gone down a little differently if the employee was armed.

WATCH:

The employee was sent to the hospital for the injuries he sustained, according to the Canberra Times.

Australia famously restricted their previously lax gun rights after the 1996 Port Arthur Massacre.

Catalonia

In Catalonia, a region of Spain, peaceful supporters of Catalan independence were brutally beaten by police Sunday.

WATCH:

Since I’m an American I won’t opine on Spanish domestic policy.

But it’s safe to say in a hypothetical independence referendum in Texas, things would go differently than in Catalonia. (RELATED: Catalonia’s Independence Woes Show Why The Second Amendment Is Necessary)
