A military vehicle accident killed two soldiers and injured six others late Friday afternoon at Fort Jackson, S.C.
Fort Jackson Public Affairs said in a statement posted Friday evening that the accident resulted in two deaths and six injuries, two of which are critical.
“A tragic accident involving a military vehicle and a troop formation, here, late this afternoon, resulted in the deaths of two Soldiers and injured six others, two critically,” the statement read. “The injured were immediately evacuated to an off-post hospital.”
Per normal procedures, Fort Jackson is not releasing the names of the deceased until next-of-kin have been given proper notification. Fort Jackson has also not released the type of vehicle involved in the training or how the accident even occurred.
“Our hearts and prayers go out to the families of the soldiers we lost today and to the families of the injured, they represent the best of our Nation and we will endeavor to support all those affected through this difficult time,” said U.S. Army Training Center and Fort Jackson Commander Maj. Gen. Pete Johnson.
Fort Jackson intends to investigate the cause of the training accident.
Fort Jackson is the Army’s central basic combat training center. The last training accident to occur at Fort Jackson was in 2016 when a sergeant first class died from heat stroke following a two-mile run in high temperatures.
