Fifty-eight people die from gun violence every 28 days in Chicago compared to the same number who passed away after the Las Vegas shooting on Sunday, according to a graphic created by The New York Times.

The NYT used a graphic Friday to show the comparison. A white gunman opened fire in a crowd of concertgoers in Las Vegas and killed the same number of people who die from gun violence every month in Chicago.

Using data from the Gun Violence Archive, the news outlet found that over the same 28-day time span, St. Louis saw the same amount of people die in a 70-day period.

“In Chicago, 58 people were killed by guns in a span of 28 days, counting back from Sept. 29, two days before the Las Vegas attack. Many shootings were of one person, not mass attacks. In Baltimore, there were 58 gun deaths in 68 days. In Houston, it was 118 days,” the outlet noted.

Other cities like Washington, D.C., New York City and Cincinnati were included as well. New York City saw 58 people die from gun violence in a 130 day period, D.C. saw the same number over 208 days and Cincinnati had 58 people die over 273 days.

“On Sunday night in Las Vegas, 58 people were killed in a single mass shooting, one of the deadliest in American history. How does that compare with the daily gun deaths in cities across the United States?” the NYT questioned.

Chicago made up about 10 percent of mass shootings in a 17-month period across the country, according to Gun Violence Archive data analyzed by The Daily Caller News Foundation. Each month, the city sees on average about three mass shootings. The mass shootings include when four or more people are shot or killed in a single event.

The FBI, however, uses a stricter definition and designates a mass shooting as an event in which three or more people are killed.
