I’m pretty sure I’ve created the greatest formula in the world when it comes to owning a bar.
I have a lot of goals in my life. Some of them are simple and pretty easy to execute. For example, my goal this weekend is to get drunk and watch football. Pretty easy to accomplish. Others, such as owning an NFL team, will be a bit harder and more time intensive.
One of my goals is to own a bar at some point in my life, preferably when I’m older. Over the course of several years, I think I have fine tuned a genius formula for the success of any bar.
This might come as a surprise to lots of people, but I have spent a considerable amount of time in establishments that serve alcohol. I’ve had plenty of great nights, some rough mornings and I might even have convinced a woman or two to talk to me.
All my experience has led me to believe there are four major things every successful bar (including my own) must have in order to be successful: bartenders in bikini tops, country music and nonstop sports coverage.
Here’s how I would setup my bar under this belief. Bartenders in bikinis is an absolute must. Can’t have it any other way. Strip clubs already exist, but that’s not what we’re shooting for here. Think of Hooters or Tilted Kilt taken up to the next level. It’s a billion dollar idea.
Second, you have to have all the country hits playing throughout the night and day. Why? Well, tons of football fans love country music. It’s a natural crossover. “Take Me Home Country Roads,” “Save a Horse, Ride a Cowboy” and “Friends In Low Places” must be played a least once every two hours. Nobody can hear those songs come on and remain seated and not sing along.
Third, and this is the most important, there must be sports games on television 24/7. I don’t mean just the highlights. I mean there must be live games, or game replays from the moment the front door opens until the place shuts down. Sports spark conversation, conversation gets people riled up, riled up people buy more drinks and embrace the atmosphere.
Sometimes my ability to think up billion dollar business ideas scares me.
