CBS sports reporter Jason La Confora on “NFL Today” referenced prior reports claiming former NFL Quarterback Colin Kaepernick would move on from his protest.

“He’s not planning on kneeling. He’s gonna donate all his jersey sales. He’s planning on standing for the anthem if given the opportunity, “La Confora said.

In March, sources claimed Kaepernick would be willing to stop kneeling for the upcoming football season.

Kaepernick started a wave of protests after he began kneeling during the national anthem in 2016. President Donald Trump suggested in September that the NFL begin firing football players who refuse to stand. Trump’s comments set off a wave of protests from football players who began taking knees or sitting in the locker room while the song played.

Editor’s Note: CBS reporter Jason La Confora clarified his comments and said that he was referring to prior reports that Kaepernick would stand for the national anthem if signed. The reporter was not referencing comments Kaepernick made to him personally, as multiple outlets reported. This post has been updated to reflect La Confora’s clarification.
