Gunmen ambushed a car full of Shiite Muslims in southwestern Pakistan on Monday while the Taliban killed three soldiers in a northwestern region.

The gunmen killed the four Shiites in the car as well as one bystander and wounded two others in Baluchistan province, according to the Associated Press. No group immediately claimed responsibility, but Pakistani authorities suspected Sunni militants, as they have consistently targeted Shiites in the area because they consider Shiites to be apostates. A group affiliated with ISIS later claimed responsibility, according to Fox News.

The Taliban ambushed a military vehicle in North Waziristan in the early morning hours of the same day, killing three soldiers and wounding seven others, according to two intelligence officials who spoke to AP on condition of anonymity. The commander of Tahrik-e-Taliban Pakistan, Maqbool Dawar, claimed responsibility for the attack. The intelligence officials told AP that the militants infiltrated Pakistan by crossing the Afghan border.

The Pakistani military has been trying to clear Taliban militants out of North Waziristan for months, but the terrorist groups continues to organize and execute attacks in the area. Terrorists once used the region as a base from which to strike at U.S.-led forces in Afghanistan and to attack the Pakistani military.
