While receiving a Golden Globe for Best Actress in a Drama in 2012, actress Meryl Streep referred to movie mogul Harvey Weinstein as “God.”

Streep accepted the award for her role as Margaret Thatcher in “The Iron Lady,” and in her acceptance speech said she wanted to thank “my agent and God–Harvey Weinstein. The punisher–Old Testament, I guess.”

The crowd laughed at the assertion as Weinstein pretended to be embarrassed and hid his head in his hands.

On Monday, Streep released a statement saying she was “appalled” by Weinstein’s alleged decades of sexual abuse against women and his financial settlements with some of his accusers. Streep claimed she was not aware of Weinstein’s transgressions prior to The New York Times report that came out last week.

Weinstein was ousted from the Weinstein Company by its board of directors on Sunday.
