Former President Barack Obama said Tuesday that Hollywood producer Harvey Weinstein should be “condemned and held accountable” for his harassment of women over the past few decades.

“Michelle and I have been disgusted by the recent reports about Harvey Weinstein,” Obama and former First Lady Michelle said a statement. “Any man who demeans and degrades women in such fashion needs to be condemned and held accountable, regardless of wealth or status.”

Weinstein has paid out settlements to at least eight women over the years, The New York Times reports. The women include his former assistant, an Italian model and an actress.

“I appreciate the way I’ve behaved with colleagues in the past has caused a lot of pain, and I sincerely apologize for it. Though I’m trying to do better, I know I have a long way to go,” Weinstein said in a statement.
