Susan Fowler, the former Uber engineer that wrote a disturbing account of sexual harassment at the company, reportedly sold her life rights to producers so her story could be turned into a movie.
One potential title thus far for the film is “Disruptors.” It will be written by Allison Schroeder, the Oscar-nominated screenwriter for “Hidden Figures,” according to Deadline Hollywood. A former Disney executive who is producing the prospective film is comparing it to a mix of “Erin Brockovich” and “The Social Network.” Multiple movie studios are now considering the production.
Fowler’s simple but powerful blog post detailed allegations of superiors engaging in highly improper conduct, like consistently pressuring her to have sex, and seemed to trigger an onslaught of bad news for the ride-sharing giant. “He was trying to stay out of trouble at work, he said, but he couldn’t help getting in trouble, because he was looking for women to have sex with,” Fowler wrote Feb. 19 in a personal blog post. “It was clear that he was trying to get me to have sex with him, and it was so clearly out of line that I immediately took screenshots of these chat messages and reported him to HR.”
Fowler, who joined Uber as a site reliability engineer in November 2015 and left in December 2016, describes how she thought since Uber was a “pretty good-sized company at that time,” leadership would handle the situation diligently and expediently. But quite the opposite allegedly occurred, with both the human resource department and upper management refusing to punish the manager besides issuing a warning for his “first offense.”
She talked to other female engineers at the tech company, heard their stories, and learned that other employees were also engaging in offensive conduct, including the exact same manager she initially reported.
After several failed attempts at requesting serious meetings, she later left and wrote her scathing chronicle of her time there.

In fact, consistent sexual harassment allegations aren’t endemic only in Silicon Valley. It is quite coincidental that Hollywood is considering creating a movie that hits corporal sexual harassment behavior right as Hollywood magnate Harvey Weinstein faces accusations by several women of similar highly inappropriate acts.
