Mitch McConnell announced that the 20-week abortion ban has the Senate’s full support following Monday’s press conference on tax reform.

“It’s supported by virtually all of my members, and we expect to have a vote on it at some point,” Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell said.

The bill, also known as the Pain-Capable Child Protection Act, the 20-week abortion ban states that no unborn baby past 20 weeks gestation can be aborted except in cases of rape, incest, or to save the life of the mother. Abortion providers that violate the law will be penalized and could be sentenced to five years in prison. (Related: House Passes Pain-Capable Unborn Child Protection Act).

GOP Sen. Lindsey Graham introduced the bill to the Senate just two days after it passed with a strong vote in the House, giving hope to many pro-life groups who have worked to promote and pass such legislation. Only three Democrats in the House  joined Republicans to vote for the Pain-Capable Unborn Protection Act, however. “I don’t believe abortion, five months into pregnancy, makes us a better nation,” Graham said according to the Hill. “America is at her best when she’s standing up for the least among us, and the sooner we pass this legislation into law, the better. We are on the right side of history.” (Related: 20-Week Abortion Ban Goes To The Senate).

Following the House’s vote, McConnell’s statement gives pro-lifers further hope that the 20-week abortion bill will finally become law.
