Actress Julianne Moore argued Thursday on “The View” that gun control and gun rights are not “a Second Amendment issue.”

“You know, people like to talk about it as if it’s a Second Amendment issue,” she said, citing her work with gun control group Everytown for Gun Safety. “It’s a safety issue.”

Moore also made the classic comparison of gun control to safety measures on automobiles.

“A gun is a machine,” she asserted. “You know, when cars were introduced we had any number of fatalities because we didn’t have safety regulations–we didn’t have seatbelts and speed limits and airbags–so we’re asking for those same kinds of things with guns–registration, licensing, background checks…limitations on the number of firearms you can own.”

Moore currently stars in the new Hollywood blockbuster “Kingsmen: Golden Circle,” which features 118 incidents of gun violence, 70 of them committed with fully automatic weapons. (RELATED: Hollywood Producers Attack NRA, But Their Movies Are Rife With Gun Violence)
