Hollywood director Quentin Tarantino said Thursday that people closest to Harvey Weinstein were aware of sexual harassment allegations against the former studio director.
The New York Times and The New Yorker released harrowing accounts of Weinstein allegedly forcing himself on women and trying to coerce them to have sexual relations with him. Those reports of assault and harassment were known to those who were closest to Weinstein, Tarantino told The New York Times.
“Everyone who was close to Harvey had heard of at least one of those incidents. It was impossible they didn’t,” Tarantino told the outlet.
While talking to TheNYT, Tarantino admitted that he knew for years about the allegations, but brushed it off as random “incidents.” Two actresses told him of alleged encounters of harassment with Weinstein, Tarantino added.
“I knew enough to do more than I did. There was more to it than just the normal rumors, the normal gossip. It wasn’t secondhand. I knew he did a couple of these things,” Tarantino said, adding “I wish I had taken responsibility for what I heard. If I had done the work I should have done then, I would have had to not work with him.”
Approximately 40 actresses have accused Weinstein of allegedly assaulting and harassing them throughout the years. A spokesperson for Weinstein has denied all allegations of nonconsensual sex.
