Rock legend John Fogerty is disappointed in our politicians’ lack of dedication to supporting our military and is calling on Americans to do their part at the grassroots level.

Fogerty recently appeared at a groundbreaking ceremony for the crisis intervention center at the Veterans Village of Las Vegas where he performed, donated to the effort and encouraged Americans to get behind their troops.

“I was in the Army Reserve, drafted, back in the Vietnam era. We didn’t take good care of our guys in Dallas coming home then and I’d say it’s still pretty lacking,” Fogerty said. “The least we can do as a country, as a population is to support those men and women, who as you say is only one percent, that is defending our way of life. And we all have a pretty great life here in America, best place in the world.”

The Creedence Clearwater Revival frontman also criticized our politicians for getting into arguments rather than focusing on the issues at hand. (RELATED: Joe Walsh Kicks Off His Inaugural VetsAid Benefit Concert For Veterans)

“I’m disappointed that our politicians spend so much time yelling at each other rather than calming it down and having a dialogue,” Fogerty said.

He then applauded grassroots efforts like the Veterans Village for making a difference rather than relying on politicians to do their part.

“This is a really great model,” Fogerty said, “over a hundred local businesses contributed to what’s being started today, here. That’s incredible support. That’s grassroots, rather than some bill that took 47 years to get through congress.”

Fogerty’s joins a number of musicians in the effort to support our veterans once they’ve returned home to civilian life. Joe Walsh, who comes from a Gold Star family, recently held the inaugural VetsAid concert benefitting veterans and their families. The Zach Brown band, Keith Urban and Gary Clark Jr. joined him for the show, which he plans to carry on as an annual event.
